I was inducted into Kappa Omicron Nu (KON) during Fall 2016. KON's three main pillars are scholarship, leadership, and research. Since being inducted, I have participated in a variety of different projects such as Hub City Fresh, Get Fruved, and the New Brunswick Community Farmer's Market. This year I was elected as the Treasurer of KON and one of the first projects of this semester was organizing a joint bread bake sale with the Rutgers University Nutrition Club.

KON Induction Ceremony 2017
This year was the first time that KON and RUNC collaborated on a joint bake sale of healthy breads. We made a variety of breads ranging from quick breads, muffins, and yeast breads. Each recipe also had a specific type of dietary restriction such as gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan breads. Each week from mid September until the last week of October, members from both organizations would meet at the Nutritional Sciences lab and prepare the different types of breads. Overall, the bake sales were a great success and with the help of both clubs, we were able to donate 66% of the profits to the Rutgers Food Pantry.

The bake sales were held on Thursdays at the New Brunswick Community Farmer's Market.
I also volunteered at the New Brunswick Community Farmer's Market and Ciclovia this year. In both events, I gave short nutrition lessons in both English and Spanish to the patrons of the market. Some of the topics that were covered included food safety, estimating the amount of exercise that would be needed to burn off a certain amount of calories, and thinking of ways to incorporate fruits and vegetables into your diet.
